About

About Dawg Food:

Founded in September, 2007 by UGA student Katherine Strate, Dawg Food was created to ultimately promote the Athens, Ga. restaurant industry. It its almost two years of existence, Dawg Food has been a source for students looking for a quick place to grab dinner on a study break, for parents seeking a quiet place to get away from the kiddos, for townies who want to venture from the norm, for Athens visitors who want a unique perspective on where to eat, and for those who have moved away from Athens but still want a taste of home.

Now, Dawg Food has moved into a new phase, Atlanta. Please come along on the journey and participate in the discussion. Avid Dawg Food followers might say Dawg Food’s most defining features are the charisma, humor and variety that go into each post. That’s what Dawg Food is all about: Food. Community. Fun.

About Katherine Strate:

Katherine grew up in Morristown, Tenn. and started attending the University of Georgia in fall 2005. Majoring in public relations (from the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication), Katherine was knee deep in activities on campus such as the Arch Society, Blue Key Honor Society, Terry College Institute for Leadership Advancement, PRSSA, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and Pi Beta Phi.

She has always valued her faith, her family, and her community, and she created Dawg Food as a service to Athens. “Why not promote a city you love?,” she says. While in Athens, her ultimate goal was to have facial recognition when she walked into a restaurant. “I always wanted people to say, ‘Everyone straighten up! There’s the Dawg Food lady!’ but that never happened. I did get a free dessert once, though.”

Free dessert or not, Katherine is continuing her dedication to community by transitioning Dawg Food from Athens to Atlanta. She’s landed a job at Jackson Spalding and wants to build a name for herself in this town. This new city is a lot bigger than Athens, but she’s determined to cover all different kinds of places in the new town. Yep, Katherine’s moved to the big city, and so has Dawg Food. Sic’em!

Great job.
We would love to have you and your friends come visit our locally owned and operated restaurant. Just up the hill from Target, where you now get ice cream!!
I believe you would love the menu.

I may just be missing it, but does your blog have an rss feed? I hardly ever go to individual blogs but I subscribe to a lot of them via a reader. I had subscribed to your old blog at blogspot, but I’m not seeing how to do it here at wordpress.

Hey Sarah,

Good call! I thought it was already on there, but I had to add it. Thanks for letting me know!

Hey! Love the blog! You have got to go check out the new crepe place, Pauley’s, where Roly Poly used to be. I have been there about four times and everything I’ve gotten has been delicious.

If you’re in the mood for dessert, the s’mores crepe is amazing!

I know I sound like their paid shill, but honestly the word needs to get out about this place. It is something different and the not only is the food good, but the employees are so nice.

I was wondering…. I am wanting to find a restaurant to host my rehearsal dinner in Athens. It will be next May and so far, I think it’s going to be about 36 people…. we want it to be 15-20$ a head and have alcohol. We also want it to be rather intimate….. any ideas at all on where we could go??? Your expertise would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you,
